Once upon a time a man named Ivan Pavlov made a breakthrough in psychology when he discovered the concept of a conditioned reflex.
He had come to learn this concept of conditioned reflex when examining the rates of salivations among dogs. Pavlov had learned then when a bell was rung in subsequent time with food being presented to the dog in consecutive sequences, the dog will initially salivate when the food is presented. The dog will later come to associate the ringing of the bell with the presentation of the food and salivate upon the ringing of the bell. (wikipedia)
Years later Robert R. Morris and Dan McDuff decided to use the same concept to help themselves and others hopelessly addicted to email, social networking, or other online distractions.
Their invention? The Pavlov Poke, a keyboard accessory that will surprise you with an electric shock every time you try to go onto Facebook.
This is definitely an art/design project that made me smile.
